It would take a lifetime to convey what happened to me, and what I witnessed this summer alone. But most of all, I know that I saw sadness and hurt turn into hugs and smiles. |
- Carie Moss (Staff Team Member '00 - '03) |
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of our summer staff team! We look forward to receiving your application. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to browse the website, as we hope it shares useful information to you about working at Starfish. You can view a PDF of our staff brochure here. We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. The process, however, is fairly competitive. We therefore recommend sending in an application as soon as possible, as there are generally very few positions remaining once the summer gets closer. Our ability to provide the essential 1:1 staff to camper ratio is a significant part of what sets our campers up for such success, and due to the importance of this aspect of our program, Starfish requires all hired staff to make the full-summer committment. |
Application Process: |
1. Complete the staff application. You can complete it online and send it in electronically, download an application to print out and mail/fax, or request that an application packet be mailed to you. 2. Ask 3 people to complete reference forms for you. Your reference forms should be completed by people who know you in a professional, leadership, child-care or academic capacity (coaches, work supervisors, teachers, internship preceptors or clergy are some examples). References should not be from friends, peers or of solely a social/character nature. Please have your reference writers mail or fax us the completed reference forms. 3. Have an Interview Once our office has received your application and reference forms, we will contact you to set up an interview. During the interview, we will ask you a number of questions about your work experience, your general interests, and how you could foresee yourself handling a few circumstances that might occur at camp. The interview is also designed to serve as an information session for you, so please ask us as many questions as you have! 4. Reference & Background Checks After the interview, we will conduct reference and background checks. We will then contact you to let you know whether or not we are able to offer you a position at Starfish for the summer. If you are offered a position, we ask you to decide whether or not you would like to accept the offer within a fairly short time frame - usually a couple of weeks. 5. Join us at Camp & Make A Difference! If you are offered the position and you accept, (which of course we hope you will!) we will send you out more information and a few other forms (most of them are so you can get paid!) to complete. Then you will be set for summer '07, and you can get excited about the amazing journey ahead - and all the lives that you will help to change by August. |
The links to the right will provide you everything you need to apply for a position at Camp Starfish. The Application Process is explained in detail below. |
